In May 2010 the median annual wage of a secondary school teacher was $53,230. Secondary school teacher generally work 39 hours a week or more. This includes work school hours, staying after school to grade papers and preparing lessons and even meeting with parents before and after school. They pay may also increase depending on additional qualifications and experience. Some secondary school teachers may even be coaches of a sport in school or advise clubs which is not part of their main job but takes away of their regular job duties and puts more pressure on the teacher. Most secondary teachers generally work the 10-month year period but in some places some teachers may work year round. This may be because they work in summer programs or because they work at a year long school.
